What Are Exosomes?
Exosomes are nano-sized extracellular vesicles (EVs), typically 30 to 150 nanometers in diameter, secreted by cells as a primary mechanism of intercellular communication. Exosomes carry a rich cargo of growth factors, cytokines, mRNA, microRNA, and signaling proteins.
Exosomes are cell-free, so the material contains no living cells. In laboratory studies they are characterized by their cargo of microRNAs, growth factors and membrane proteins.
