The State Highway Administration striped shuttle bus lanes on MD 355, southbound from Woodmont Avenue to Hampden Lane and from Elm Street to Western Avenue, and peak curb restrictions became all-day ones from 6:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., touching about 160 on-street spaces in Bethesda and Friendship Heights.

Heat is the other summer risk. Reagan National reached 99°F on 11 June 2026 and 100°F the next day, so a carton should be expected and collected promptly on days like those.

Cold-chain receiving at a Bethesda or Chevy Chase address

Montgomery County requires owners, lessees and managers to clear snow and ice from sidewalks in front of and alongside their property within a day after the precipitation ends, leaving a path wide enough for pedestrians and wheelchairs. A missed deadline is a class C violation with a $50 fine, enforced by the Department of Housing and Community Affairs, and anyone can report an uncleared walk through 311.

Wisconsin Avenue is state route MD 355, so lane and bus lane changes there come from the State Highway Administration, while Alert Montgomery carries County emergency notices.

Rockville, near Bethesda, with its own permits

The City of Rockville, a few stops north of Bethesda on the Red Line, is an incorporated city with its own permits. Its Community Planning and Development Services Department, through the Inspection Services Division at 111 Maryland Avenue, issues building and trade permits and separate commercial occupancy permits through its MGO Connect portal, and takes calls on 240-314-8240. A Montgomery County Use and Occupancy certificate for a Bethesda or Chevy Chase suite does not cover an address inside Rockville.
