Downtown paid parking runs from 1 May to 30 October, from eight in the morning to nine at night, with a four-hour limit on premium streets. A driver stops briefly and expects a signer at the door.
The account lists that door, the signer and the hours someone is in, and a practice that changes its hours for the season should update it. On arrival the signer confirms dry ice remains, notes the time and lot number, and opens the carton in a ventilated room, since sublimating dry ice gives off carbon dioxide. Vials go to -20°C for long storage and to 4°C once thawed, as the manufacturer's handling instructions direct. If the dry ice is gone we replace the carton, and a refund for any other delay depends on whether the material stayed temperature-controlled.
Bar Harbor licensing and permits for a practice
- A partnership or sole proprietor trading in Bar Harbor records its name, assumed name and type of business with the Town Clerk for a $10 fee. The duty comes from Title 31, sections 1 and 2, of the Maine Revised Statutes. A withdrawal certificate is filed if the business dissolves.
- Bar Harbor Code Enforcement, at the Municipal Building on Cottage Street, enforces shoreland zoning, land use, plumbing, electrical, life safety and building standards. No activity or use that needs a permit may begin until the property owner holds it. A newly fitted Bar Harbor suite should not be listed as a delivery address until its permits and inspections are complete.

Island towns and Ellsworth near Bar Harbor
The Town of Mount Desert shares a police department with Bar Harbor but sets its own parking rules and runs its own town offices.
