When an order reaches a Seattle practice

Federal bridge rules let the Ballard, Fremont and University drawbridges stay down for most boats only from 7 to 9 a.m. and 4 to 6 p.m. on weekdays; at other hours they lift for vessel traffic, and a van bound for Ballard, Fremont or Wallingford waits at the span.
Snow is rare at Sea-Tac but stops deliveries when it comes. SDOT plows arterials first and does not plow non-arterial streets at all, so a suite on a steep side street on Queen Anne or Capitol Hill can be out of reach for days after a storm. In February 2019, Sea-Tac recorded 20.2 inches of snow. Nothing is held back from dispatch because of Seattle weather. A carton already moving sits in the carrier system until the street opens, so a practice that expects to close should place its order once it reopens.

Cold-chain receiving at a Seattle address
At a First Hill or South Lake Union medical tower, tell us whether the carton goes to a loading dock or a lobby desk, and name who collects it there and at what times. SDOT caps a stop in a yellow-curb commercial vehicle load zone at 30 minutes of loading or unloading. At a street-front office, a shipper left by the door in November, the wettest month, sits in the rain until someone carries it inside.
Power is the larger Seattle risk. After the November 2024 windstorm, City Light took until the following Sunday evening to bring its last customers back. A practice that keeps stock on hand needs a freezer on backup power or an alarm that reaches staff at home. On arrival, check that dry ice is left, log the time and lot number, then freeze the vials: the manufacturer's handling instructions call for -20°C for long holding and 4°C after thawing.
Rules that apply to a Seattle order
- A practice doing business in Seattle needs a city business license tax certificate, filed through FileLocal. Every certificate expires on 31 December, the fee is tiered by the prior year's taxable revenue, and each branch location adds $10.
- Moving into a suite whose last permitted use was not a medical office is a change of use, and SDCI requires a building permit for it, so the new address is ready for deliveries once that permit is closed. An interior build-out that keeps the same occupancy does not need a new certificate of occupancy.
- Seattle businesses must clear snow and ice from the sidewalk beside their property, which decides whether a driver can reach a street-front entrance after a storm.
- The Seattle Office of Emergency Management issues city alerts through AlertSeattle; King County emergency management covers the unincorporated areas and coordinates with the cities.
Areas near Seattle on the same lane
Shoreline, Burien and Bellevue are on the Washington lane with Seattle, but each is its own city with its own license. Shoreline and Burien draw power from Seattle City Light, and both were among the hardest hit in the November 2024 outage. Shoreline licenses businesses earning $4,000 or more a year inside its limits on a calendar-year certificate. Bellevue sits across Lake Washington on Puget Sound Energy's grid, so a Seattle outage says nothing about a Bellevue suite, and it issues its own business license through the same FileLocal portal. One account can list sites in all four cities, each lot logged to the address that received it.

- It can add a short wait. - Seattle City Light has an outage at our First Hill office. What happens to an order?

A carton that arrives with no dry ice left is replaced; a refund for any other delay turns on whether the material remained temperature-controlled throughout.

- Give us the new suite, the dock or lobby instructions and the recipient's hours before the first order to the new address.
