When an order reaches a Manhattan practice

Cold-chain receiving at a Manhattan address

A Manhattan delivery is usually made to a building, and the building decides where a package goes: the doorman's desk, a package room or a service entrance with posted delivery hours. City rules let a truck stand in a metered commercial zone for up to three hours per block on weekdays from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. unless signs say otherwise, and the driver hands the box to whoever the building sends down. The account therefore names that drop point, the staff member who collects from it and the hours that person is in.

A shipper parked in a package room through a July afternoon, when the normal high at Central Park is 84.9°F, spends dry ice it was packed to keep. The collector checks for remaining dry ice, writes down the arrival time and lot number, and freezes the vials. The manufacturer's handling instructions set -20°C for storage and 4°C after thawing. Those two entries decide a claim: a box whose dry ice is gone on arrival is replaced, and other delays may be refunded depending on whether the material held temperature.

Rules that apply to a Manhattan order

The NYC Department of Buildings requires a current or amended certificate of occupancy when a change in use, egress or occupancy type is made. Buildings put up before 1938 need none unless later work changed those, and for them the Manhattan borough office can issue a Letter of No Objection confirming the legal use. A former apartment or shop converted to a practice suite should have one of the two before it is added as a delivery address.
